RPP Report: Review. Preview. Profit. (04-19-2021)
From the desk of Steve Strazza @sstrazza
At the beginning of each week, we publish performance tables for a variety of different asset classes and categories along with commentary on each.
Looking at the past helps put the future into context. In this post, we review the absolute and relative trends at play and preview some of the things we’re watching to profit in the weeks and months ahead.
The same themes that we’ve been pounding the table on more or less continue to drive primary trends.
In recent weeks, we’ve seen some rotation back into Large and Mega-Caps, which has propelled the major indices to new highs, while SMIDs are still resiliently consolidating. While the list of negative data points has grown, it’s still not close to anything that warrants concern.
Developed Markets, particularly European equities, are resolving higher across the board — a move confirmed by strong breadth and bullish internals. In short, we continue to see strong equity market participation around the Globe.
We’re also seeing signs of another leg higher for the Commodity complex as more positive economic data pours in.
Ultimately, risk markets remain in a healthy state right now.
[Premium] Taking Portfolios To The Next Frontier
From the desk of Steve Strazza @sstrazza
It’s been a long time coming…
Public investors finally have opportunities to gain exposure to the exciting new Space Exploration industry.
We’ve seen a handful of new pure-play Space IPOs and SPACs hit the market this year. Most recently one of our favorite fund managers, ARK Invest joined the party and launched their own thematic Space ETF, $ARKX.
There’s obviously a ton of hype surrounding this emerging theme right now. But is this industry, in its current form, worth investors’ time?

2 To 100 Club (04-15-2021)
From the desk of Steve Strazza @Sstrazza
Welcome to the 2 to 100 Club.
Something we’ve been working on internally this year is using various bottoms-up tools and scans to complement our top-down approach. One way we’re doing this is by identifying stocks as they climb the market-cap ladder from small, to mid, to large, and ultimately to mega-cap status (over $200B).
Once they graduate from small-cap to mid-cap status (over $2B) they come on our radar. Likewise, when they surpass the roughly $30B mark, they roll off our list.
But the scan doesn’t just end there. We only want to look at the strongest growth industries in the market as that is typically where these potential 50-baggers come from.
Some of the best performers in recent decades – stocks like Priceline, Amazon, Netflix, and Salesforce, to a myriad of others… all would have been on this list at some point during their journey to becoming the market behemoths they are today.
When you look at the stocks in our table you will notice we are only focused on technology and growth industry groups such as Software, Semiconductors, Online Retail, Solar, etc
Then like any good technician, we filter the list down to those that are closest to new 52-week highs. This allows the cream of these strongest groups to rise to the top and helps streamline our mission to identify technical breakouts in the top-performing stocks.
Young Aristocrats (April 2021)
From the desk of Steve Strazza @Sstrazza
Dividend aristocrats are easily some of the most desirable investments on Wall Street. These are the names that have increased dividends for at least 25 years, providing steadily increasing income to longer-term minded shareholders.
As you can imagine, the companies making up this prestigious list are some of the most recognizable brands in the world. Coca-Cola, Walmart, and Johnson & Johnson are just a few of the household names making the cut.
Here at All Star Charts, we like to stay ahead of the curve. That’s why we’re turning our attention to the future aristocrats. In an effort to seek out the next generation of the cream-of-the-crop dividend plays, we’re curating a list of stocks that have raised their payouts every year for 5-9 years.
We call them the Young Aristocrats, and the idea is that these are “stocks that pay you to make money”. Imagine if years of consistent dividend growth and high momentum & relative strength had a baby, leaving you with the best of the emerging dividend giants that are outperforming the averages.
By adding our technical analysis to the mix, the Young Aristocrat setups give you the opportunity to own the best of the market’s future blue-chip winners before they become must-own household names.
And maybe the best part? This list is not just designed for long-term investors. Any kind of investor or trader can use this list as it helps generate ideas across all timeframes, even the short-term. Remember, some of the most important filters we use for this list are momentum, relative strength, and proximity to new highs.
So let’s keep it real, these stocks are going up across all time horizons.
With that said, let’s dive right in.
The Minor Leaguers (04-12-2021)
From the desk of Steve Strazza @Sstrazza
In our continued effort to identify individual equities that fit within our larger Macro thesis, we recently rolled out our latest bottoms-up scan: “The Minor Leaguers.”
We write a post every other week where we outline some of our favorite setups from this universe of stocks.
We’ve already had some great trades come out of this column and couldn’t be happier about the early feedback.
Moving forward, we’ll be rotating this column with “Under The Hood” each week.
In order to make it onto our Minor League list, you must have a market cap between $1 and $2B. There are also price and liquidity filters.
Then, we simply sort the stocks by their percentage from new highs. Easy done.
The idea is to catch the strongest names while they’re still small and have serious upside potential. If any of these stocks ever climb up the ranks to the big-leagues, just imagine the returns. We’re looking at 5-10x moves just to break into large-cap status!
And what better time than now to launch a small-cap focused column? We’ve seen very strong evidence of a structural rotation down the market cap scale, suggesting a new period of outperformance from small-caps in the coming months and quarters.
This column is a great way to take advantage of that trend.
Let’s dive in and check out this week’s list of the hottest stocks in the Minor Leagues.
Under The Hood (04-04-2021)
From the desk of Steve Strazza @Sstrazza.
Welcome back to our “latest Under The Hood” column for the week ended April 2, 2021. As a reminder, this column will be published bi-weekly moving forward, and rotated on-and-off with our new Minor Leaguers column.
In this column, we analyze the most popular stocks during the week and find opportunities to either join in and ride these momentum names higher, or fade the crowd and bet against them.
We use a variety of sources to generate the list of most popular names. There are so many new data sources available that all we need to do is organize and curate them in a way that shows us exactly what we want: A list of stocks that are seeing an unusual increase in investor interest.
Whether we’re measuring increasing interest based on large institutional purchases, unusual options activity, or simply our proprietary lists of trending tickers… there is a lot of overlap.
The bottom line is there are a million ways to skin this cat. Relying on our entire arsenal of data makes us confident that we’re producing the best list each week and gives us more optionality in terms of finding the most favorable trade setups for our clients.
Commodities Weekly (04-02-2021)
From the desk of Steven Strazza @Sstrazza and Ian Culley @Ianculley
Many of the same themes that we came across in last week’s Commodity Report continue to play out.
Overhead supply keeps demand at bay while price churns sideways, offering mixed signals.
Like many areas of the market, Commodities are a bit messy.
While sideways price action and choppy market conditions are the norms at the moment, there is one consolidation in the Commodity space that demands our close attention.
