This week I popped into Yahoo Finance to chat with their Technical Analyst Jared Bilkre.
We discussed the potential bottom in Bitcoin earlier this week. If Bitcoin is above 30,000 then a long position makes sense. But if it doesn't, I think there's probably good support at zero. Who knows how low it can go from there. But I won't be in it, so it's not my problem.
With the Nasdaq100 Equally-weighted Index flirting with a breakout near 110 and the ARKK ETF near 130, these are the critical levels we're watching.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average, Dow Jones Transportation Average, Russell2000 Small-caps and Russell Micro-cap Indexes are all below overhead supply.
Messy for longer has been the pain trade and I think European Banks could be a big tell for the next direction of markets. We're watching that $20 level on $EUFN.
Last night I popped into BNN Bloomberg to talk about what's going on in the market.
We're seeing new highs across a lot of major indexes, but what's happening underneath the surface?
We've been seeing the price of lumber soaring along with things like Steel and Rebar futures. It's the whole demand/building/growth theme that continues to stand out.
One thing that's definitely worth watching is the All Country World Index Ex-U.S., which is basically a snapshot of what the rest of the world looks like. And you'll notice that the index ETF $ACWX is stuck right between its 2008 highs and 2018 highs.
This puts the global stock market in quite a predicament. If you're bullish equities, you're going to want to see a breakout through those historic 2008 highs. If you're bearish equities, this is one you want to see break back below those 2018 highs.
I was away from the office last week with the team, but I was still able to pop into BNN Bloomberg for a quick hit.
We discussed the fact that fear among investors is off the charts, stocks are in uptrends and breadth is expanding. I think the beginning of the new Commodities Supercycle is bullish for stocks and just another tailwind to take them higher.
If the tv anchors think I'm making a bold call by suggesting that stocks in uptrends will go higher, then we're probably not near a top.
It's a new year and I'm back on the TV to chat with Catherine Murray at BNN Bloomberg. I wish I was in Toronto to shoot this live so I could get some Thai food or something afterwards, but we'll settle for a Skype call in this one! Man I love visiting Toronto.
Anyway, I don't think there's been anyone on her show who has been as bullish stocks as we have over the past 6-8 months. I even asked her, but she just laughed. Remember Just Buy Them Baby! from July?
What's changed since then? Only additional sector rotation, further breadth expansion and unparalleled participation (and new leadership) from global markets. Are you not entertained?
Check out the interview in full. We touch on some important points:
Monday afternoon I popped on to BNN Bloomberg to have my regular chat with Catherine Murray. These are always fun because we focus on what actually happening in the market, versus all the gossip that revolves around it.
Remember, we're coming off my Just Buy Them Baby interview with Catherine from July. We got a lot of funny emails from people after that one. But as it turns out, just buying them worked out very well.
I got a last minute invite to pop on BNN Bloomberg yesterday to chat about the ongoing uptrend in the stock market. While we've seen some stocks and sectors correcting this month, others have held up very well. We want to focus on the ones that did NOT correct, or barely corrected, and are already pressing up against new highs.
It's always fun chatting with Catherine over at BNN Bloomberg. She has the uncanny ability of getting me on her show just at the right time! In February, I explained very clearly why we were raising cash (the week before the biggest market crash ever), and then in early July I was screaming on television to buy stocks aggressively, just before a slew of new sectors started breaking out to the upside.
Today, I have a similar bullish view. This is a market that is rewarding us for buying stocks. That's the bottom line. And we don't see any evidence of that changing yet. Catherine also asked me about the Bond Market and I explained why I think rates go higher.
We like the have fun with these. Life is short. I hope you enjoy it!
The stocks that worked well in the second quarter should continue to lead the market higher. We still want to be buyers.
On Tuesday afternoon I had a chat with Catherine Murray over at BNN Bloomberg about which stocks we're most focused on. As it turns out, the same stocks and sectors showing up on our buy scans in early to mid-March are the same ones showing the most positive momentum and relative strength now.
It's working. We're sticking with it. Here's the interview in full:
As you guys know, we've had a much more defensive approach to the stock market over the past few weeks, especially compared to how bullish we had been for so long. There is a time to be big and aggressive and a time to be small and cash heavy. I believe we're currently in the latter of those two categories.
