Freedom Wins Again

May 25, 2024

Emerging Markets can be a funny thing.

Remember, this isn't your dad's emerging markets.

It's different now.

Back in the day, we used to get a ton of commodities exposure from Emerging Markets. Now you're getting 22% Technology in the $EEM ETF and you're getting almost 30% in the Emerging Markets Ex-China Fund $EMXC.

It's hard to blanket all emerging markets into just one thing, kind of like we all used to do 20 years ago.

You also saw it from portfolio managers' allocation strategies. The reason these emerging markets were moving together was because assets were being allocated that way by the fund managers.

But that's no longer the case, and one of the things we were talking about during our meetings this week in Sonoma.

If you're interested receiving the videos from our private meetings and charts to download, contact Mary right away for more details.

We had a lot of fun and certainly had some amazing conversations and debates this week.

But one of the best charts of the entire trip had to be the Freedom100 ETF making new all-time highs:

This fund uses personal and economic freedom metrics as primary factors in the investment selection process, but I would encourage everyone to do their own homework. Here's their factsheet.

I like this one as a way to express a bullish Emerging Markets thesis, but with an interesting twist.

Like I said, check the fact sheet for yourself, but how I look at this one is that we're getting exposure to EM but without the communists.

It's not exactly quite that simple. I've spoken to Perth Tolle - founder of Life + Liberty Indexes - and I would encourage you to listen to the conversation we had together last Fall.

We're all rooting for her and the success of this fund.

But putting our friendship aside, this ETF is hitting new all-time highs this month in an environment where not a lot of Emerging Market ETFs are doing that.

There were hundreds of charts presented this week from many different asset classes.

We have a ton of ideas to put on, and some are already working.

But this FRDM discussion was one of my favorites.
