Island Reversal in META

April 25, 2024

Island Reversals are few and far between. They don't show up very often.

But when they do....look out!

Here's Meta, the parent company of Faceplant, I mean Facebook, losing a few hundred billion dollars in value since yesterday's close.

I'll say that again, "Losing a few hundred billion dollars in value"....overnight!

When I talk about how this year is NOT like last year, this is the sort of thing I mean.

This is not the type of behavior that was happening last year....one of the world's biggest companies lighting their shareholders' money on fire?

2024 is a new year. It's a new environment.

The strategies that worked last year are not working very well this year. Many strategies that weren't working well last year are working much better this year.

We sold naked puts in Berkshire Hathaway last week because that's the type of trade that works well in this environment.

Our profit target was hit in 3 days.

We also collected income in Nvidia yesterday.

We did the same in John Deere 2 weeks ago.

These are the types of trades that are working when Volatility is the highest its been in 6 months and the majority of stocks on the S&P500 are in messy ranges.

This is just a messy market. We don't have to pretend that it isn't.

Quite the opposite. We're profiting from it.

Look at the behavior of the "median stock", as represented by the Value Line Geometric Index. Notice how it's just as messy as the ratio between high beta and low volatility stocks.

These things are a mess:

The options market is the best way to take advantage of these messy ranges.
