Oil Index Hits All-time Highs

April 8, 2024

The NYSE Oil Index includes the leading companies involved in the exploration, production, and development of petroleum.

This index dates back to 1984 so it's got some history to it.

It also includes a lot of Energy stocks headquartered outside the United States, giving investors a much more global perspective, as the NYSE tends to do.

On Friday, this index closed at the highest price ever.

But take a look at the price of Crude Oil overlaid.

What are the prices of these stocks hitting new all-time highs telling us about the future price of Crude Oil?

Are you prepared for what's coming?

I don't think many people are.

Personally, I started putting on this 30x trade last week and plan on adding more to it this week.

It's designed to give me the energy exposure that indexes like the S&P500, DJIA and Nasdaq100 simply do not.

Those indexes are designed specifically to exclude Energy from your portfolio.

It's almost malicious. But since they tell you up front that they don't want you to have any energy, it's up to investors to actually read the fact sheets.

Since most investors purposely choose not to understand what they own, or what they don't own, they won't realize their lack of energy exposure until it's too late.

We love that.

It creates opportunity.

And to be clear, there's nothing wrong with having exposure to those other indexes. In fact, those indexes have done very well over time.

But if you think Energy prices are rising, then you need to take one simple additional step to get yourself some exposure.

That's what I had to do.

And I'm doing more of it this week.
