Energy Wins & Utilities Lose Again
As far as asset returns go, you can see below how Commodities won Q3 in general, after struggling to keep up with stocks the past 3 quarters.
Also notice the S&P500 returns in Q3, actually not bad considering the record numbers they had been putting up since Q4 last year.
The market continues to be a mess, particularly at the index level, which is perfectly normal for this time of the year.
So I still think it's important to be looking for both long and short exposure.
A great scan we have for that is our Under The Hood Report, which looks for stocks showing an unusual increase in investor interest.

Again, just because a stock is getting a lot more attention, all of a sudden, doesn't necessarily mean we want to buy it. Heck, we may even want to short it.
