Growth Investor or Portfolio Growth?

March 6, 2021

You see, just because you and your crazy friends have way too much U.S. Large-cap Growth exposure, doesn't mean the stock market is in a correction.

Stocks can do very well while Tech and Growth severely underperform.

May I remind you that Tech was the leader early in the recovery back in 2002-2003. And then handed over the baton to everyone else:

It's a new leadership regime.

I think you'll have some mean reversion and digestion of gains in Value stocks at some point, but I think that will just be a time to add to Value and eliminate more Growth from the portfolio.

When my family left Cuba in the early 1960s, along with so many other families, they thought it was only temporary. Most of them believed they were all going back at some point. A lot of them never left because they thought they could just wait out the storm.

Well here we are almost 60 years later and they still haven't returned, if they're even alive at all. And the ones who never left missed out on all those opportunities that the early movers were able to benefit from.

Some were able to adapt quickly and move on. Many didn't, for one reason or another.

Maybe this rotation into Value is only temporary. Maybe I'm totally off base here and the market will prove me completely wrong.

Maybe.

And maybe you'll be stuck in Cuba for the next 60 years, and you won't be able to help your family the way you could have if you would have just listened to the message of the market, and gotten the hell out of there.

Big shout out to Abuela and Abuelo, on both sides of my family, for making the move early on.

I don't forget.

It's A Bull Market

You know how I know it's not a Bear Market?

Because the Dow Jones Industrial Average and Dow Jones Transportation Average keep closing at new all-time highs:

Those just aren't things that happen all the time in an environment where we want to be shorting stocks.

Sure, some stocks get hit as sectors rotate. Utilities for example have been getting crushed.

But the world doesn't revolve around Utilities. Or Tech.

There's so much good. Why focus on the bad?

Remember, oftentimes the best trades and investments make you the least comfortable. See here.
