Happy New Year, and welcome to 2023!

What I try to do at the start of the year is to not allow my bias cloud my judgment. I try to stay focused on price and let the market guide me. I'm not overly bullish. But I will let the market tell the story, and I will follow along.

The market is the leader, and I'm just the follower.

So, as they say, let the journey begin.

That was a nice bounce overall in the market. Hopefully it holds.

I've said many times that this market is not for the faint of heart.

The $SPX broke 3,800. Next support is at 3,780, then 3,764. Resistance is at 3,840.

The indices dropped all morning long.

Santa has not come to town just yet.

The indices kind of went nowhere yesterday.

$SPY would need to recapture 385 in order for the market to trend higher.

That was a very slow day.

Fortunately, we did have some decent winners inside the live trading room.

Futures are indicating higher this morning. I'll be watching to see how they hold up.

It's a short week, and probably a light week as far as trading volume.

Happy Holidays to all!

The Santa Claus rally begins today, and the market did a decent reversal yesterday from the lows. What a save.

Now, for today, I'd like to see $SPX 3,800 hold for a move to 3,850. The real test will be back above 3,875.

Yesterday was a one-hit wonder for longs. Today was pretty ugly.

The market is showing who's in charge.

The $SPX broke through support levels at 3,850 and 3,800. Next support is at 3,744.

Futures down some after yesterday's nice move to the upside.

It could be a consolidation day, but I would like $SPX 3,850 held today.

In today's Morning Briefing, I wrote about $SPY and $TQQQ trade ideas.

Both targets were reached. SPY ran right into resistance at 387 and then pulled back, as was alerted.

As I write this note, the futures are gapping higher.

The cash index could open roughly at $SPX 3,850 -- that is, as long as we stay higher.
