We're in the middle of Summer and markets are quiet, almost too quiet. It's easy to overthink things this time of the year and get lost in noise that is mostly made up to fill space. There isn't much going on right now for market participants, so it can only be worse for people whose job it is to report on it. Headlines that would normally fall to the bottom of the stack rise towards the top, just out of sheer necessity. The problem is they don't differentiate between what is important and what is just relatively important today because there's nothing else going on. That irresponsible behavior suggests to me that it is best to tune it all out completely. It's not worth it. 

Meanwhile, it's the behavior of the market itself, both in the U.S. and globally, that is most important to us. Watching the relentless sector rotation taking place constantly as US Stock Indexes continue to make new all-time highs makes it hard to be bearish overall. There are a few areas where I think there are some opportunities on the short side, but there are plenty of areas that we want to be buying, even at current levels.

I recognize the fact that this time of the year can be challenging from a portfolio management standpoint. We tend to spend more time with family, more time at the beach and more time not working. So if you're in this situation what do you do? Check the news? I highly advise against that.
