Happy Dow Jones Industrial Average Day

Today marks the 115th Anniversary of the famous Dow Jones Industrial Average. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has declared Thursday May 26 “Dow Jones Industrial Average Day” in honor of the blue-chip measure.

What is intriguing about the Index is how it has tracked the evolution of the American economy for more than a century. Here is the price history of the Dow Jones Industrial Average from Thechartstore.com. This is without a doubt one of my all-time favorite charts:
