I’m heading down to Durham, NC next week to give a presentation at Duke University. It’s a huge honor for me to be invited to speak in front of such bright kids. I am really looking forward to meeting everybody and having a healthy back and forth discussion about Technical Analysis and my experiences as the founder of a startup hedge fund.
We’ll start the event with my usual spiel about Technical Analysis and Risk Management. But I’m also excited to talk about the financial industry itself. I think it’s important for the next generation of financial professionals to understand the differences between asset managers and asset gatherers: Do you want to be a salesman and just schmooze and raise money? Or do you want to make investment decisions for a portfolio? Big difference. We’ll also discuss the roll that financial media has on the marketplace, both traditional and in social. Here is the information from the school:
The Duke Investment Club is excited to announce that we will be hosting J.C. Parets, Founder and President of the hedge fund Eagle Bay Capital, LLC. Mr. Parets will be discussing a variety of topics, potentially including: an introduction to Technical Analysis, his experiences on Wall St., what it is like to start and run your own hedge fund, buy side vs. sell side, financial media, and more. Time permitting, he will also see what his technical analysis has to say about some of Investment Club’s recent pitches. Mr. Parets’s bio can be found below. We also encourage you to check out his blog, allstarcharts.com, and his fund’s most recent investor letter, attached. Anyone is welcome, and we look forward to seeing you there.
What: Event with J.C. Parets of Eagle Bay Capital
When: Thursday, November 14 from 5:30PM-7:30PM

It should be a blast. Fortunately, the dukies are home Friday night, so I get to check out Cameron Indoor and knock another one off the bucket list. Then Saturday, the Miami Hurricanes play at Duke in Football. So it looks like I have a pretty awesome weekend lined up.
The event is Thursday night – November 14th. Hope to see you there!
