Sen. Tommy Tuberville Turns to Growth Stocks

May 16, 2022

The largest insider transaction on today's list is a Form 4 filing by George Lopez, founder and former CEO at ICU Medical $ICUI, who reported a $4 million purchase of his own stock.

We had two different insiders report purchases in the battered Bitcoin proxy MicroStrategy $MSTR.

Both the Senior Executive Vice President and Director revealed purchases totaling roughly $908,843 in Form 4 filings.

The only 13D on our list was filed by HG Vora Capital Management, which revealed an ownership stake of 9.90% in the trucker Ryder System $R.

Here’s The Hot List, with data through May 13, 2022:

In another Form 4, Stephen J. Luczo, director at Morgan Stanley $MS, reported a buy of just under $2 million.

Goldman Sachs filed a 13D revealing a 6.9% ownership stake in the software application stock GitLab Inc $GTLB.

With yet another Form 4, Bryant Riley, the chairman and co-CEO of B. Riley Financial $RILY continues to grow his position in the asset manager.

While the stock has been cut in half this year, insiders have acquired just under $20 million worth of stock. Riley himself is responsible for over $15 million of those purchases.

In the options market, there was bullish flow in Cameco Corporation $CCJ, CF Industries Holdings $CF, and the Brazilian metal & mining company, Vale S.A. $VALE, as options traders continue to be active in commodity stocks.

Last but not least, Alabama Sen. Thomas Tuberville filed a Periodic Transaction Report declaring the purchase of two stocks.

Sen. Tuberville reported acquisitions worth between $15,000 and $50,000 in the online payments provider PayPal Holdings $PYPL and $100,000 to $250,000 in the e-commerce company ChannelAdvisor Corporation $ECOM.

Tuberville has had one of the best track records in Washington in recent years, so we always pay extra attention to his filings.

What stands out about this one is that this is the first time we’ve really seen him make any material purchases in growth stocks.

Since late last year, he’s been investing in the commodity, cyclicality, and inflationary themes, so this filing marks a clear change in character in his portfolio behavior.

Stay tuned. We'll be back Tuesday with more insider action.
