These Are My Favorite Follows on Stocktwits

November 29, 2015

When you talk about some of the most valuable tools for market participants, there are very few out there better than the community that is Stocktwits. One of the most difficult things to do is consistently avoid the noise that surrounds the market and changes in the prices of stocks, commodities and currencies. There are too many commentators and headline writers that get paid to make noise and not to try to make money in the market. This increases noise levels and makes it difficult for the average investor to differentiate between what is real and what are click-bait, air-time filling exaggerations. What I love about the Stocktwits platform is that you can curate your own stream. You follow who want to follow and ignore who you need to avoid. If there are users just creating noise and not adding any real value, you don't have to worry. We have the advantage of only seeing information from the users we want to hear from. The noisemakers eventually get booted out anyway. It's a great community and today I wanted to share with you guys who some of my favorite follows are on the platform.

Here is my list in no particular order:

Brian Shannon @alphatrends - I've been watching Brian's stock market youtube videos for almost a decade. His book Technical Analysis Using Multiple Timeframes was the first book on the subject that I read voluntarily after finishing the curriculum for the Chartered Market Technician designation back in 2008. His work has definitely influenced my process and I think his emphasis on using multiple timeframes in your analysis is some of the best advice I've ever gotten. Brian is also a heck of a skier. You want to be out on the slopes with this guy.

Ryan Detrick @RyanDetrick - I like to refer to Ryan as the Statmaster. I have some quantitative inputs that I use in my analysis, although I am 100% discretionary when it comes to my execution. I think Ryan adds that quantitative statistical value to the table which serves as the perfect supplement to my process.

Chris Kimble @KimbleCharting - Kimble has arguably the best charts on the Stocktwits platform. As someone who looks at the market from a more global perspective I really appreciate the wide range of assets and ratio charts that he puts out. I think there is more to this market than U.S. stocks on an absolute basis. Whether looking at treasury bonds, precious metals or a combination of them with his superb use of ratio analysis, if you're not following Kimble I don't know what you're doing here in the first place.

Josh Brown @reformedbroker - The thing about Josh is how well rounded and well read he is on a daily basis. When I'm away from the office or out of town, I know that I can count on Josh's stream to get me caught up quickly. If there is anything I missed, Josh is either picking it apart searching for any value or making fun of it in a clever way. More often than not, it's a healthy dose of both. He needs to be one of your first follows on Stocktwits. There's no doubt about that.

Michael Batnick @MichaelBatnick - Batnick just gets it. He's a Chartered Financial Analyst who recognizes that only price pays. His expertise in fundamental analysis is the perfect compliment to his acknowledgement that supply and demand dictates changes in market prices. He doesn't let the noise surrounding the market impact his decision making and is one of those guys you know is going to be around for a long long time. His writing gets better with every post and the value and humor he brings to my stream is unlike anyone else that I follow. He brings excellent historical context to compare to today's markets with a combination of market history and academic studies.

Tom Bruni @BruniCharting - If there is such a thing as a rising star in this business, it's Tom Bruni. I know of very few people in this world who have understood the value of technical analysis at such a young age. He interned for us a few years back and you can definitely see my influence in his work. But he has taken control of his process and made it his own. Once you follow Bruni you will understand how dedicated he is and why I think he is one of the best follows on the stream. I can't wait to see his career take off. Did I mention he hasn't graduated from college yet? I'm more impressed by this kid every day.

Charlie Bilello @MktOutperform - I can sit here all day giving you reasons to follow Charlie but I think the best thing about his approach is his work on intermarket analysis. I love how well he incorporates other asset classes and market ratios to help him navigate through the equities world. If you have any interest in the stock market, interest rates and sector rotation, this is the guy you want to follow. His top/down macro approach has to be my favorite part of following him on Stocktwits. There's no BS on his stream, it's all business. I love that.

There are a lot more great follows on the stream but these are just a few of my favorites to get you started. Feel free to see who I'm following on Stocktwits to help you with idea generation across markets.
