Football Season Also Marks Stock Market Crash Season

September 22, 2011

This is easily my favorite time of the year. The weather starts getting cooler, but not freezing yet. The leaves start to change colors. And most importantly, its Football season. Saturdays are filled with intriguing college match-ups across the country. And nothing is better than Sunday Funday watching the NFL with your friends and family.

But there's a catch - its also Stock Market Crash Season. Sure, historically there have been some hard sell-offs at all times of the year. But for one reason or another when the smell of pig skin hits the air, sell buttons are easier to find.

According to my handy Stock Traders Almanac, the worst 10 days for the Dow Jones Industrial Average since 1950 have all come during football season. How about that sports fans?

$DJIA - Today's Market decline is no different folks. It looks like there is no bottom in sight, and sure enough we're entering the heart of the 2011 Football season.
